NRL is in the process to finalise agreements to import a large number of in service 3100 horsepower in-service locomotives to Southern and Central Africa. The technical details of the locomotives include:

• Diesel Electric Locomotives (General Electric ALCO Series type, 3100 horsepower)

• Residual life span of 20-25 years (extendable for a further 20-25 years with good maintenance support)

• Manufactured by international manufacturers with 50 years of experience

• Standard specifications, with customisation options for narrow gauge and other necessary modifications to bogies, and traction motors

• Guaranteed parts supply and warranty support.
